It’s October, the air is getting cooler, and Fall is officially upon us, so, naturally, it’s time to re-evaluate our wardrobes. We all have to look through our closets and figure out what to keep and what to get rid of so that we can make room for new items that fall in line with what’s in this season. Let’s get right to it!
First thing’s first, hang on to the peplum trend. Peplum jackets, peplum dresses, and peplum tops still have a lot of life left in them, so make sure you keep your favorite peplum pieces. Leather is another trend that’s sticking around for a little while longer. Leather jackets, boots, and leggings are great ways to incorporate this material into your autumn looks. However, as with anything, don’t go overboard with leather. Yes, punk is making a little come back this season, but too much leather is never good. If you want to be bold, do it using your outerwear. An over-sized flyaway cardigan with tribal print, fur, and parkas are a great way to incorporate a bold touch to your wardrobe with ease.
Recently, I’ve become a big fan of River Island, which has a 3 for 1 parka coat that I’m absolutely obsessed with. It features a leather jacket liner with a fur trimmed hood, mixing three fashion trends all in to one. I’d suggest dishing out a few dollars on a quality coat that’s warm and fashionable. Why not do it with a parka like this?
Now, for colors and prints. For one, stick to classic prints. Pinstripes, plaid, and houndstooth items will be some safe bets this season, so invest in them. Don’t rely on your florals as it’s not spring anymore, so be careful with that. However, one garden element you might want to look out for is emerald green. It’s dark and rich, but yet brings enough elegant color to your whole look, creating something out of the ordinary. Plus, it fits in quite nicely with this year’s updated military trend, so I’m sure these two trends will be great for any wardrobe looking for quick changes.
My last bit of advice is to remember to layer! After all, the magic of layering is the true beauty in Fall fashion. A simple top paired with a textured or patterned jacket that is topped off with a chunky scarf, tailored pants, and ankle boots can be a staple look of the season. Don’t forget the power of details like boots, hats, gloves, scarves, and tights. Layering is great and it’s what gives Fall and Winter an edge over Spring and Summer.
But, above all things, invest in a wardrobe you’re in love with. If you can re-purpose something to fit the latest trends, do it! As long as you love your pieces and feel comfortable in what you’re wearing, it’s very hard to not look good!
