Hello Peace of Mind

Thank you
because I was seriously tripping!
Before you,
I could feel myself slipping.
You made me look around
and that’s when I knew
you were holding me down.
You landed on my page
like an angel from the sky
and I’m so grateful
you stopped to say “Hi.”
My heart steadied
and my chest became lighter.
You said chill out
because you know I’m a fighter.
It had been so long,
since the last time,
I’m just glad you came
and calmed my mind.
Thank you
because, without you,
I wouldn’t know what to do.

Love Never Felt So Good- Michael Jackson

Five years ago today, the legendary King of Pop, Michael Jackson passed away.  It was a sad moment for music fans everywhere who thought that would be the end of Michael’s legacy, that there would be nothing else to add, but we were wrong.  Even after his death, MJ has been able to hang on to world records, keep his title as the King of Pop, and give us new music that had never been released.  No, it’s not the same as if he were here alive and in the flesh, but having his music still playing through our speakers is still a good feeling.  Rest in Peace Michael Jackson!

Laugh Loudly & Proudly

I was casually talking to my mom the other day and she said “last night I heard you and junior laughing.” This was at about 1:30 in the morning and, for someone who wakes up at 4:30 in the morning to go to work, you would expect annoyance to be her natural reaction. This was her initial reaction to our late night boisterous sounds, but then she followed up this feeling with the thought “Oh, but they’re laughing,” bringing an immediate smile to her face. She continued by saying that seeing us happy (or, in this case, hearing us be happy) made her happy, so she ended up not being annoyed or mad at all.

This is the kind of family I was raised in. A family that values joy, happiness, and laughter. A family that loves to enjoy life. A family that loves to laugh and make others laugh with them. It’s no wonder why my siblings and I have such grand and distinct laughs. We’ve spent a lifetime perfecting our laughter by finding the humor in little things, the big things, and really anything.

Honestly, laughter is a beautiful thing. To experience a genuine laugh is amazing and I encourage everyone to do it as often as possible. Expressing your undeniable sincere satisfaction with your present situation is something to be proud of. So laugh as long as you want, as often as you want, and as hard as you want. Laugh loudly. Laugh proudly. Laugh unapologetically… Because that laugh is an expression of your joy and there is no reason why you should feel the need to hide that joy. Don’t be embarrassed. Don’t be ashamed. If anything you should want to share your laugh in order to spread and share your happiness with the world. Use your laugh as a tool to make others happy. Use your laugh as a tool to keep yourself happy. No matter what you’re doing just remember to laugh loudly and proudly.

The Night Sky

The clouds are menacing,

and a bit scary.

They’re large in size

and move slowly,

making me wary.

I don’t know

what is to come from them.

I don’t know

what to expect.

Turbulent air,

rain, or thunder?

They all can be next.

The clouds are so dark

as they float on by

it’s impossible to see,

but it’s the pitch black

night sky

that won’t let me be.

It blankets the world

in a dark cloak,

but the stars still manage

to peek through.

I glide amongst them all,

taking it all in

as if I belong there, too.

In the distance,

the horizon lights up

in a flash.

I keep looking

far to my left

to admire each blast.

Every few moments,

I see a giant spark.

It’s quiet, but beautiful

and shoos away the dark.

It only lasts for a second or two,

but, because of its grandeur,

staring in amazement

is all I can do.

With each new symphony of lights,

I study the shapes

and I take in the sights.

Each one, within its beauty,

is ruthless and intimidating,

threatening to strike

with no holding back.

And, as I watch them safely

from miles away,

I can only respect them

more for that.

Summer is Here NOW!

Yesterday marked the first day of Summer, the season of youth and freedom.  The season that also happens to be my favorite time of the year.  As a Summer baby, I feel like these next three months are when I thrive the most.  For some reason, I feel extra motivated and, to an extent, unstoppable.  Like I said before, it is the time for youth and freedom.  Summer is the opportunity to do whatever you want.  It is the time to be daring and try new experiences.  The cold Winter air isn’t keeping you indoors and the dreary skies aren’t stifling your happiness.  It’s the perfect time to carry out your plans, achieve your goals, and enjoy yourself.  Don’t let another summer pass you by without taking full advantage of it.  I know I definitely will be doing everything I can to make sure I don’t waste my Summer.

Happy Birthday Jose!

Whenever someone new steps into your life, it’s customary to be wary and a bit suspicious of that person, especially if you didn’t choose for that person to be a part of your life.  You don’t know the person and, although you don’t want to judge the newcomer, you still wonder if they can be trusted, what their intentions are, and if they actually are good people.  Eventually, they’ll start to show their true colors and either your worries will not have been in vain or you never had anything to worry about in the first place.  It just depends on the person and the circumstances.

Jose, at one point, was a stranger, a new member to my life, and, in all honesty, I didn’t like him.  I didn’t think he was right for my sister and I even refused to serve him the food that I cooked.  However, I can truthfully say that today, a few years later, I gladly say Jose is part of my family.  Throughout the past few years, he has proven to me that he’s a good person and he’s done a good job of spreading the joy and love that he has in his heart.  All in all, he’s secured a spot in my family whether he likes it or not! I don’t regret being wary of him at first, but I certainly don’t regret accepting him into my life either.  He is the best brother-in-law I could ask for because of many different reasons, but especially because he is perfect for my sister.  I don’t think I could think of another man who could make my sister as happy and fulfilled, which is the main reason why he’s won over my love as well.  So, today, your birthday, I wish you nothing but endless love and happiness.

Happy Birthday Jose!
