People constantly tell me that they are jealous of the relationship I have with my brother. We are extremely close, we get along better than most siblings, and we act as if we’re twins, even though we’re three years apart. When people point this out, I can’t deny it, but the truth is my brother and I have been solidifying this relationship for YEARS, so I think, after all of our hard work, we deserve a good relationship.
When times got hard, rather than separating and growing apart, we stayed close together, becoming each other’s support system and we fed off each other’s strength. This was how we managed to progress and develop our individual peace, balance, and success, despite whatever madness was going on. Over the years, my brother has become my best friend, my business partner, and my mentor, among other roles he plays in my life and I honestly could not have created a better big brother… Well, maybe he could be less stubborn, but I guess nobody’s perfect. Either way, I literally cannot imagine my life without him and I feel honored to share so many journeys with him.
Today is my brother’s 25th birthday and, although he has accomplished so many things already, I know there is so much more he’ll achieve in the next chapter of his life. Happy Birthday Junior!
Today, my big brother, my ride or die, my best friend, and the closest thing I have to a twin turns the big 2-4 (hence the name Black Mamba as a reference to Kobe Bryant). We have had our fair share of arguments, fights, tears, and trips to the “hospital,” but I must admit that I never get tired of hanging out with this kid. Somehow he manages to annoy me and make me laugh in the same breath. I don’t know how he does it, but, while I’m rolling my eyes and trying hard to not give him the co-sign he’s looking for, I’m doing my best to hold back my laughter and amusement. He is probably the person who understands my ambition, humor, and overall mentality the best, so it’s hard to not respect and love him. He’s only 24 and he’s got some kinks to work out, but he’s accomplished so much in his short years and I know it’s only going to get better. Trust me when I say this is our year!
Happy Birthday Dog from the bottom of my heart! I hope you have a great birthday as a start to an even better year! This is only the beginning.
My cousin Edwin is one of the toughest guys I know and most people are intimidated by him just by his look. On top of his physique, he has gone through so much that only makes him stronger all around. Honestly, I don’t know if I could have experienced everything he has and still have the positive outlook on life that he maintains today. I respect and admire the drive he shows in his life and I’ve never known him to be a quitter. I strive to be like him in many ways and I feel lucky to have him as such a huge part of my life. At the same time, my cousin is among the sweetest people I know. He is a man who is not afraid to show his emotions and I love him for that. I can never doubt that this kid loves me with the way he always keeps up with what’s going on in my life and with how warm his big hugs are. Throughout my life, this man has acted as a second brother to me and he has proven that I can count on him whenever I need him. If I need to talk, he’s there and, if a boy needs to be taught a lesson, he’s there, too. Today is my dear Edwin’s birthday and I wish him nothing but the best. I’m so glad to have been able to see him just a few days ago and I can’t wait to see him in a few more weeks. I love him more than words can truly express and I just want to wish him a very happy birthday!
Today, I just want to wish my soon to be brother-in-law a very happy birthday. (And yes I can now officially say soon to be brother-in-law because now the engagement is official, which I helped plan and execute if I don’t say so myself!) But, in all seriousness, I must say that throughout the past couple of years, Jose has proven himself to be an irreplaceable asset to our family. He is perfect for my sister and he fits into our family as if he had been born into it. There have been moments where our bonds have been tested, but they were, more importantly, strengthened. I have a lot of respect for Jose as a man and as a person in general because I have seen first hand how good his heart is. Throughout the past year, he has been given many blessings and special moments and I hope that those blessings will continue to come into his life because he most certainly deserves them.
Happy Birthday Jose! I love you!
Today, I want to send out a special congratulations to my big sister and my soon to be brother-in-law for their engagement. This past weekend we all went down to DC for The Color Run and just as the celebratory dance party was at its peak, the DJ announced a couples dance contest on stage. My brother-in-law and my sister went up on stage where they competed in the dance off and then he made a special announcement to my sister. The crowd cheered, my mom cried, and my sister said yes. It was all perfect and I’m glad to have been a part of it. I love those two and I think they are perfect for each other… Congratulations and welcome to the family!
Yesterday was National Sibling Day and, although I missed it by a day, I still wanted to post a little something in honor of my own siblings. Growing up with an older sister and an older brother, I surely have experienced all the ins and outs of not being an only child. Thanks to my brother and sister I’ve been picked on, labeled as annoying, and outsmarted. I hated being the youngest and I hated always being one step behind them two. However, I also benefitted first hand from their teachings, protection, and love. There is really nothing like having a brother and sister who can make fun of you and defend you like their cub all in one day. I’ve had plenty of fights and arguments with my brother and sister, but I’ve had even more laughs and priceless memories. People hate being around me and my brother because we go off on tangents that only we understand. Me and my sister barely have to speak to understand each other, leaving everyone around us lost in the conversation. The three of us can simply eat dinner together and watch TV to have a good time and that’s what I love about my family. We might be getting older with jobs and starting our adult lives, but, in actuality, we’re all still the Vany, Junior, and Tana who used to “ice skate” in the house, watch Legends of the Hidden Temple, and pull all-nighters together for no reason. I love my siblings and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Happy National Sibling Day!
I always say that me and my brother are twins, but just that I was born three years later. We think alike, have the same kind of humor, and even act alike sometimes. Friends who hang around the both of us always complain about how similar we are, but that’s just too bad because we’re not changing any time soon! But, above all things, my brother is my big brother. He looks out for me, gives me advice, and is there when I need him. I don’t think anyone has a better big brother than Junior. I’d say that 99% of the time he’s a pretty good big bro, but with that comes those moments of being a bit too scary. What can I say, he takes his job seriously? Either way, Junior has definitely brought me more good memories than not and I am so thankful to have him in my life. I can’t imagine my life without Junior in it… I mean who else would break up all of the estrogen in my house? Who else would make creepers on the street go away? Who else would have wrestled me my whole childhood to make me into the tough cookie I am now? The truth is he’s irreplaceable and I am so blessed to be able to say that I’m his little sister.
Happy Birthday Junior!
