Yesterday marked the first day of Summer, the season of youth and freedom. The season that also happens to be my favorite time of the year. As a Summer baby, I feel like these next three months are when I thrive the most. For some reason, I feel extra motivated and, to an extent, unstoppable. Like I said before, it is the time for youth and freedom. Summer is the opportunity to do whatever you want. It is the time to be daring and try new experiences. The cold Winter air isn’t keeping you indoors and the dreary skies aren’t stifling your happiness. It’s the perfect time to carry out your plans, achieve your goals, and enjoy yourself. Don’t let another summer pass you by without taking full advantage of it. I know I definitely will be doing everything I can to make sure I don’t waste my Summer.
Today marks the first day of winter. The season the year starts off with and the same one it ends with. Honestly, winter has always ranked as my least favorite season. However, after some long reflection, I think it wasn’t the season of winter that was hurting my soul, but the things I had to endure during so many winters of my life. I’m not a big fan of cold weather, I prefer long sunny days over short dark ones, and winter always meant that I was only half way through the school year. This year is a little different and I must admit that I’ve developed a new appreciation for the winter season. Yes, the air is cold and the days are short, but there’s also so much beauty in winter that shouldn’t be overlooked. White snow, bright holiday decorations, and so many celebrations. Winter is a season of reflection. You’re preparing yourself for a new year in your life, your renewal in spring. You have to appreciate that in some way. Personally, I still hate the cold, dark days filled with leafless trees, but I love the opportunity to celebrate. You can celebrate your family, your year’s accomplishments, and what your new year has in store for you. So, honestly, I welcome winter with open arms because I’m just excited to celebrate all that I’ve done since last winter and I can wait to see what comes next.
This week The Voice’s Season 5 winner was announced and the title went to Jamaica’s Tessanne Chin from Team Adam. Honestly, I couldn’t have been happier, especially since Jacquie and Will were two of my other favorites in the competition and they made it to the finals, as well. Tessanne quickly became one of my early favorites after hearing her audition with Pink’s “Try” and, with every new song she did each week, I only wanted her to win the whole thing more badly. Even if you weren’t rooting for Tessanne, you can’t deny her talent. Her voice is a special cross between Whitney Houston and tones of Toni Braxton sometimes mixed with Caribbean flavor and her own Tessanne touch. She can pull off virtually any genre of music from reggae and R&B to mainstream Pop and it seems as if no note is off limits to her. Plus, her energy seems to be full of light and positivity, which is impossible to not love. To celebrate her big win, enjoy a few of my favorite of Tessanne’s performances along with her original song “Tumbling Down.”
The nights are getting colder, the leaves are changing color, and pumpkin season is here. Yes, Fall has officially arrived. Honestly, I don’t have a problem with this season. I just dread the cold, short days of Winter that immediately follow the colorful months of Fall. However, Fall has plenty to offer. I love the layered fashion that is now fair game and I like seeing the leaves change colors. I enjoy dressing up on Halloween and I adore cooking a feast on Thanksgiving. It’s the beginning of the holiday season. How can I not appreciate Fall in some way? To me, Fall is also a good time to re-establish your goals in your life and make changes. It’s almost the end of the year, the season is changing, and the world is starting its major natural makeover during this time, so why shouldn’t you, too? Take Fall as a symbol for the changes that you’re going to make this upcoming new year. (Yes, it’s almost here!) Shed the negative energy that is decaying away and you simply don’t need. Find a place within yourself that can serve as a better foundation for your future. Even if you’re feeling good about your life right now, there’s always room for improvement. Enjoy Fall and make the most of it!
Summer is officially here and, because it’s my favorite season of the year, I couldn’t be more excited. I always view summertime as a time of freedom, youth, and fun, so I definitely try to take advantage of the spontaneity of the season and I encourage you all to do the same. Take advantage of the sunny summer days, the warm summer nights, and the flexible summer schedules. Go to the beach. Go to an amusement park. Go for a walk. Go for an adventure. Do whatever you want, but just make sure to enjoy the nice weather and the freedom that summer brings. I’m definitely excited for my summer plans and the memories that will come from random moments with the people I love. The fact that I just graduated and will be turning 21 soon makes this summertime even sweeter for me. I can’t wait for the unforgettable memories and the nice tan I’ll be gaining this year. I wish you all the best during what I think is the best time of the year and I hope you all enjoy whatever the next three months have in store for you. Happy Summertime!
As you may know from a recent post of mine, I haven’t always been the biggest fan of winter, but I will say that I have developed a certain appreciation for the crisp season. In the past, despite my dreading of winter, the freezing cold temperatures and the merciless winds would still come, but, no matter how uncomfortable winter seemed in the past, I was always alright and the holidays were always a good experience, so I really didn’t have much to complain about. Now, I may still hate the cold, but I can look at winter with a new light. The holidays that only happen in winter are some of my favorites and they are perfect opportunities to spend time with my beloved family and friends, you can’t beat the shopping and some of the fashion trends that the colder months bring us, and I’m on a much-needed break from school. Sure, the days seem shorter and driving on icy roads is no fun, but only during winter can you curl up under a blanket with some hot chocolate to watch a movie. Only during winter can you drive around your neighborhood and see the enchanting homes that are decorated like gingerbread houses and winter wonderlands. Only during winter can you close one chapter of your life and bring in the new year. Winter may have its downfalls, but no season is perfect, so it’s about time I start showing winter some love. Today’s the first day of winter and I’m looking forward to the many beautiful moments it will bring me this time around!
I must admit that I have never been a big fan of winter. Yes, I love some things about winter. Christmas, New Years, the look of snow, and, of course, the unforgettable memories that come with the season of winter, but it also has its con. The below freezing weather, the early sunset, and the bare trees are all aspects of winter that I can’t stand. What can I say? At the end of the day, I am a summer baby, so I guess I am a little bias. However, I also must confess that as I was lingering on Facebook I caught a glance of what can save winter for me.
One of my cousins wrote in her status about how much she loved winter and everything about the holiday season. She went on about how the crisp, cold weather in the air was harsh, but that it only existed to help you feel the warmth and love from all of your loved ones. I have to give her kudos for this kind of ideology. Before seeing this, I had never thought of such a plus to the depressing, brutally cold winter weather and I have definitely developed a different appreciation for the season.
At the end of the day, winter is really about family and friends. You spend the holidays with your family and friends, you give and receive gifts from your family and friends, and, when the year is coming to a close, you remember the moments with your family and friends, looking forward to the many more memories you’ll create together. After spending so much time with the people you love most, it’s hard not to feel the warmth from their love. Winter can definitely be cold and dark, but that only means that the warmth, light, and love from your relationships have more room to shine. Embrace the ones around you and embrace winter. It’s just another opportunity to give and receive love. I guess, that’s not so bad after all!
